Mezcal, craft cocktails and more in Orange County!

The Craft movement has taken the world by storm lately, and Orange County is no exception! Whether its jewelry, fashion, home accessories, beer, wine, cheese, cupcakes, dog biscuits or mezcal, the craft trend has found a unique place in today’s market.

Patchwork show: Edible Edition is an annual creative food summit in Southern California bringing visionary chefs, authors, bloggers, handmade craft vendors and food artisans together with attendees for two days of eating, learning, tasting and shopping. Patchwork is the creation of Delilah Snell (master food preserver/owner of the eco-boutique The Road Less Traveled Store in Downtown Santa Ana) and Nicole Stevenson (owner/designer of Random Nicole and craft instructor). The aunt-and-niece team also produce Craftcation, a four day small business and hands-on DIY conference in Ventura, Ca. The two native Orange County women sought to celebrate local handmade goods and provide a venue for attendees to sell and shop for unique goods.

As a former OC resident, I cannot express how excited and happy I feel to be considered to be a part of such wonderful event. Be sure to stop by our stand this weekend, where we will be pouring La Niña del Mezcal straight and in cocktails!

Home Bar Basics (And Not so Basics)

On Saturday at 6:30 pm, you can catch Dave Lieberman of OC Weekly and Dave Stolte of “Home Bar Basics (and Not-So-Basics)” teaching us how to make classic craft cocktails at home. And be sure not to miss Bill Esparza of Street Gourmet LA, Las Perlas’ agave expert Raul Yrastorza, Food Network’s Mexican Made Easy Chef Marcela Valladolid, and yours truly on Sunday at 2pm spilling the beans on all things agave:

Is Justin Timberlake Good for Tequila? The Gentrification of Agave

Moderated by Bill Esparza with Marcela Valladolid (Food Network’s Mexican Made Easy, owner of Hacienda de la Flor tequila, CBS Great Baking Competition), Raul Yrastorza (Las Perlas, mezcal bar) and Cecilia Rios Murrieta (La Nina del Mezcal)
As agave based spirits from all over Mexico–tequila, raicilla, bacanora, mezcal, and sotol–are literally pouring into the United States, yet the spotlight still shines on the celebrity based brand. Patron was the first traditional Mexican brand owned by a celebrity (John Paul Dejoria), and now at a time when agave aficionados are seeking rare agaves and artisanal productions, a new wave of movie and rock stars are getting in on the agave game. We will discuss the future of Mexico’s spirits and the various interests over sips of mezcal and tequila. Salud!
